Wyoming DOT Is First to Pay Out All Federal Stimulus Funds to Contractors

All $158 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding received for Wyoming highway projects is now in the hands of the contractors, which completed 69 projects around the state.

WYDOT, according to a statement it released last week, is the first state transportation department to complete paying out all of its stimulus funds for highways. Nationwide, 87% of ARRA highway funds have been disbursed to states.

Among the projects funded completely or partially with recovery act money were improvements to U.S. 14A west of Cody, U.S. 18 west of Lusk, Interstate 80 between Rock Springs and Green River, Wyoming 116 south of Upton, U.S. 16/20 west of Moneta, and West Lincolnway (Business Loop 80) in Cheyenne.

"The goal of ARRA funding for highways was to stimulate the economy while improving the nation's transportation infrastructure, and we accomplished that in Wyoming," WYDOT Director John Cox said in the statement. "We got a lot of badly needed work done on our highways and bridges, and contractors got work they needed to help them through a tough economic time."
