AASHTO Launches High Speed Rail Website |
|
High-speed and intercity passenger rail grant awards, news, and state activities are featured on a new AASHTO website, www.highspeed-rail.org, which was launched Thursday in conjunction with the announcement of nearly $8 billion in rail recovery grants to the states.
State transportation departments have been leading the development of intercity passenger rail service for more than a decade, said AASHTO Executive Director John Horsley. "This website brings together news and information, best practices, and technical assistance as the nation moves into this new rail era," he said. Through the site, viewers can link to descriptions of this week's grant awards presented for projects in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The site also features a video report of President Barack Obama announcing the awards in Tampa, FL. "This is only the beginning of the high speed and intercity passenger rail revival," said Leo Penne, AASHTO's program director for intermodal activities. "As the program grows, expect to see the website become information central on this exciting transportation initiative." Questions regarding this article may be directed to editor@aashtojournal.org. |
