Book Examines Illinois DOT's Quality Efforts |
|
A newly released book by the American Society for Quality offers a case study of the Illinois Department of Transportation, the first state DOT to achieve certification for its major business practices. "Making Government Great Again: Mapping the Road to Success With ISO 9001" is authored by John Baranzelli, ISO quality assurance officer for the Illinois DOT. The book reviews eight quality-management principles that have helped IDOT better manage its planning, design, and construction of road and bridge improvements, maintenance of existing roads and bridges, and administrative oversight. The 208-page book is available at tinyurl.com/ASQ-Baranzelli. The cost is $45 for ASQ members and $75 for others. There is also a free 27-minute audio presentation from Baranzelli available at that same page. Questions regarding this article may be directed to editor@aashtojournal.org. |
