FHWA Unveils Online Map Showing Every Recovery Highway Project |
|
The Federal Highway Administration has created an interactive map of the United States that shows every single highway project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- more than 12,000. Clicking on a dot brings up information about that project.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood wrote on his blog Thursday that the new map helps demonstrate the effectiveness of the $26.6 billion in state highway recovery funding distributed by FHWA. "Each of the 12,000 dots represents a project. That's a lot of dots," LaHood wrote. "But more important than the number of dots is that every dot in every state represents jobs. ... Those dots also add up to a lot of safer, smoother miles for you, your loved ones, and the commercial truck drivers who transport the goods we use from place to place." The map is available at fhwaapps.fhwa.dot.gov/rap/. (You might need to download a special application before being able to view it.)
