New Mexico Funds 12 More Highway Improvements with Cost Savings |
|
The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced more highway projects will be funded with federal economic recovery money thanks to cost savings on previously approved construction work.
Gov. Bill Richardson said last week that several state and local highway projects cost less than expected, the Associated Press reported. That freed up about $12 million in federal aid that will be used for a dozen new projects and to cover the costs of several others needing more money to complete. Among the planned work is pavement upgrades to Interstates 25 and 40, and revamping a road interchange in Artesia. New Mexico has received nearly $253 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money for transportation. Some 90 state and local highway projects have gone out to bid since February.
