Virginia DOT Launches Facebook Site |
|
The Virginia Department of Transportation unveiled a Facebook page Wednesday to better communicate with the more than 7 million Virginians who depend on VDOT for transportation information.
"VDOT is dedicated to keeping in touch with our citizens and providing them the information they need to make informed decisions about projects, travel plans, and to see how VDOT is using their tax dollars to plan, build, operate, and maintain the third-largest highway system in the nation," said Jeff Caldwell, VDOT chief of communications. "Adding Facebook to that mix will provide us yet another means of communicating with those who use Virginia's highways." The department's new Facebook page (www.facebook.com/VirginiaDOT) will complement other social-media sites -- including Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr -- that VDOT uses to interact with state residents and keep them informed on current activities. In February, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials released a survey outlining how state DOTs use social media. At the time, 20 state DOTs had Facebook pages.
