Georgia DOT Names New Chief Engineer

Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Keith Golden announced Thursday that department veteran Russell McMurry has been named GDOT chief engineer.

"I am extremely pleased to have selected Russell for this critical position," Golden said in a statement. "He brings a wealth of expertise in many disciplines and years of experience in many facets of Department operations."

Currently serving as GDOT's director of engineering services, McMurry has been with the department since 1990. He has held various positions since, including a five-year stint as district engineer for Northeast Georgia.

McMurry will be taking over for current chief engineer Gerald Ross, who is set to retire effective Dec. 31 after 30 years at GDOT.

"Following Gerald Ross is no small task," McMurry said. "But I feel as though I've spent my entire career preparing for this moment. I am ready for the challenges and so appreciative of the commissioner and the board giving me this opportunity."
