Obama Signs 3-Month Extension of Aviation Programs |
|
President Barack Obama signed into law Dec. 22 legislation extending for three months the existing fuel, ticket, and other aviation-related taxes that fund the Federal Aviation Administration and the Airport Improvement Program, which helps states and localities pay for upgrades to their airports.
The stopgap bill (HR 6473) extends through March 31 all current tax rates and the FAA's authority to spend that money from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund. Senators cleared the bill by unanimous consent Dec. 18, several weeks after the House passed it. A long-term FAA reauthorization bill has been stalled since September 2007. This is the 17th short-term measure continuing FAA's authorization since that time. Questions regarding this article may be directed to editor@aashtojournal.org. |
