In this video Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker says he honored to receive the prestigious 2016 America’s Transportation Awards, Grand Prize for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge; the largest project of its kind in state history. The $554 million project, spans 42-hundred feet over the Quinnipiac River, reliving traffic congestion for the 140,000 vehicles that rely on the bridge every day. The Florida Department of Transportation’s Eller Drive Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Overpass project earned 65,000 of the more than 220,000 online votes cast, making it the winner of the People’s Choice Award. This $42.5 million project improved safety and traffic flow to the Port Everglades cruise and container terminals through upgraded intersections, a new bridge, railroad crossing signals, and other major improvements. In this video Assistant Secretary for Engineering and Operations at Florida DOT Brian Blanchard accepts the award on behalf of his agency. The competition now in its ninth year, is sponsored by AASHTO, AAA and the US Chamber of Commerce to promote awareness about the transportation projects that are improving safety, creating jobs and promoting economic development in communities across America.
